On 28th June, the Ulu Chemor bridge girders were successfully launched on to the RC abutment using a single unit 275 tonnes capacity mobile crane (DEMAG brand). Accroding to the professional beam launcher, the DURA beams (i.e. TBG1325) are easy to lift due to its lightness and stiff characteristics. The lifted beams have a total length of 29.5m and weight up to 31 tonnes, as compare to conventional prestress RC beam, the RC beam would has weighted up to 60 tonnes per piece for the similar length.
During the beam launching work, a number of JKR Kinta staffs were at the site to witness the entire process. One of the comment given is the beam launching method is not only has high safety factor, but also create minimal mess and obstruction to the site. Conventional beam launching method generally would required more number of cranes and more site preparation works. Very often, the crane need to park at the middle of the river thus many preparation and temporary work is required.
