The Pearl River Delta Water Resources Allocation Project is a major national water conservancy project and national water network backbone project deployed by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, an important part of Guangdong's "five vertical and five horizontal" water resources allocation backbone network, and one of the 172 major water conservancy projects for water-saving and water supply deployed by the State Council. The project has a total length of 113.1 km of water transmission lines and a total planned investment of about RMB 35.4 billion . Since the comprehensive start of construction on May 6, 2019, it has taken 4 years and 8 months to basically complete. After completion and opening to water, it has been able to divert water from the Xijiang River system to the eastern part of the Pearl River Delta, with an annual water supply of 1.708 billion cubic meters. It is the largest water resource allocation project in Guangdong that has been built, with the longest water transmission line and the widest water receiving area. The Pearl River Delta Water Resources Allocation Project starts from Liyuzhou, Shunde, the main stream of the West River in the west, crosses Shiziyang, and ends at Shenzhen Gongming Reservoir in the east, with a total length of 113.2 km. The implementation of the the Pearl River Delta Water Resources Allocation Project aims to solve the problem of water shortage in Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou Nansha and other places, effectively change the previous single water supply pattern in the water receiving areas, and improve the city's water supply security and emergency support capacity, It plays an important role in ensuring urban water supply security and economic and social development, and will also provide strategic support for the development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. The Pearl River Delta Water Resources Allocation Project can effectively solve the problem of water shortage in life and production in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan and other places, provide emergency standby water sources for Hong Kong, Guangzhou Panyu, Foshan Shunde and other places, gradually return ecological water to the Dongjiang River basin, and further ensure the water supply safety and ecological security of Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Bay Area.
